Visited the puri jagannath temple and konark temples yesterday. The puri temple is old and not really well maintained or organised. The crowds were a fraction of the strength that visit guruvayoor temple, but the push and shove a lot greater. Also, simple rules of crowd mangement, such as not allowing input and output streams to mix, were not practiced. The konark temple was magnificent, although much in ruins. What struck me most was the pursuits of the monarchs and people in general on large scale activities such as construction of monuments that now define our art and culture. Do we do anything of this now? We only are into pursuits that provide commercial value...
